Complex Grids

I found this on Swiss Miss.

I often envy print designers, and web designers to be fair, because they actually get to really geek out about grids. With interactive stuff like campaign microsites there is very rarely the opportunity to work in the traditional manner because most sites are made up of small nuggets of information such as little speech bubbles, signpost type things and so on.

We can set style like leading and type sizes, margins and every now and then a gutter… making sure that the information sits in nice comfortable boxes and so on; but the very image and motion based aspect of the discipline tends not to allow a complex and geeked out grid. Of course there are exceptions with more information heavy sites - I’m just refrring to the ones I typically do.

I don’t know why I’m rambling on…must be envy - but I do know that I’m going to attempt this grid one day. Just for shits and giggles. And for love.

And a career change.
